During the meeting between the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Pretoria and the Speaker of South Africa’s National Assembly, topics related to bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, and the latest regional developments were discussed.

In this meeting, Shakib Mehr referred to the recent Israeli aggression against Iran and expressed appreciation for the South African government’s position in condemning the unlawful attack. He also called on the South African Parliament to denounce this violation of the international law by Israeli regime and to adopt an appropriate stance in this regard.

The Iranian Ambassador reiterated the invitation extended by Dr. Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, emphasizing the importance of bilateral and multilateral political cooperation. He called for expanding political and economic relations—besides parliamentary ties—through the exchange of parliamentary delegations and the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group between Iran and South Africa.

Ms. Thokozile Didiza, the Speaker of South Africa’s National Assembly, stressed the necessity of strengthening bilateral ties. Referring to Israel’s attacks on Iranian territory and the killing of commanders, nuclear scientists, and citizens, she affirmed it as an attempt to divert attention from that regime’s crimes in the killing and displacement of the people in Gaza.

She also welcomed the proposal for enhanced parliamentary cooperation and expressed readiness to visit Iran.
